As in many other regions of France, in Provence you will encounter delicious wines to pair with your meals or to enjoy as an“apéritif” before your lunch or dinner! Wine has been
produced in this area for at least 2,600 years, ever since the ancient Greeks founded the city of Marseilles in 600 BC. The “rosé” wines are prevalent and you can find some of the best French ones in Provence. But if you are a red or white wine lover, no need to worry, you will find very good ones here too! Unlike elsewhere in the world, French wines are often named after the land where the grapes are grown instead of the variety of the grapes. The main “Appellations d’Origine Contrôlées” (guaranteed quality level) are Côtes de Provence, Côteaux d’Aix-en-Provence and Bandol. My favourite one is from Bandol: the Bandol La Chrétienne. The monks living in Saint Honorat Island off the coast of Juan Les Pins are renown for their wines too. That is another good reason to spend a day visiting the two Islands of Lérins!

La production de vin commença en Provence il y a plus de 2.600 ans, quand les grecs fondèrent la cité de Marseille en 600 avant JC. Ici, c'est le pays du Rosé et vous y trouverez les meilleurs de France. Mais les amateurs de rouge ou de blanc ne seront pas en reste: il y en a également de très bons. A la différence des autres régions vinicoles du monde, les vins de France portent le nom du terroir et non pas celui du cépage. Les principales Apellations d'Origine Contrôlées (AOC) sont Côtes de Provence, Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence et Bandol. Mon préféré est un Bandol: La Chrétienne. Enfin, n'oublions pas que les moines de l'île Saint Honorat produisent également un vin fameux. Une autre bonne raison de visiter les îles de Lérins!
